boosting is not a strategy.

The boost button is the easiest way to spend money on Instagram. It's also the easiest way to spend without learning anything.

what boosting skips.

A boosted post runs one piece of content, usually made for organic posting, against a broad goal. There is no funnel behind it, no plan for testing, and often no conversion tracking to say whether it sold anything.

the learning phase.

Meta's delivery system needs data before it settles. Meta's guidance is that an ad set stays in the learning phase until it has had around 50 optimisation events, such as purchases if you optimise for purchases, within about a week of its last significant edit. Results are less stable until then.

Spread a small budget across many boosted posts and none of them may get there. A structured campaign concentrates the budget so the system can learn, and changes are made on purpose rather than every day.

what to run instead.

  • Set up tracking, so every order is counted.
  • Start with a clear offer and a small number of ad sets.
  • Test several creatives inside them.
  • Review weekly, then scale what's profitable.
