working with an agency.
How do I know if my marketing agency is doing a good job?
the short answer.
Ask for the line from spend to revenue, in writing, every week. A good agency shows cost per order, what changed and why, and what they are testing next. If the report is reach, impressions and engagement with no money in it, you are being shown activity instead of results.
the questions worth asking.
- What did we spend, and what did it bring back?
- What is our cost per order, and which direction is it moving?
- What did you change this week, and what happened?
- What are we testing next, and what would make us stop?
reporting that hides things.
Reach, impressions and engagement are inputs, not outcomes. A report full of them, with no cost per order and no revenue, is a report designed to be hard to argue with.
access is not negotiable.
The ad account, the pixel and the page should be owned by you, with the agency added as a user. If an agency will not do this, that tells you what happens the day you leave.
We report weekly, and the number at the top is always money.
